City Council Candidate Forum held at Surf City
Surf City Pizzeria Pasta Restaurant (837 Surf Ave) held an engaging forum in Coney Island Wednesday night. Two candidates for the 47th Council District Steven Patzer and Alec Brook-Krasny responded to questions from the socially distanced crowd that attended as well as audience members viewing via Facebook live stream.
The event was hosted by Coney Island resident and community advocate Ramon Guadalupe and facilitated by Tasheen Knight. All attendees practiced standard safety protocols.
The two candidates courteously answered questions from community residents of all ages. Alec Brook-Krasny touted his experience in the State Assembly while Steven Patzer spoke about the dozens of events that he has organized alongside community members. When asked both candidates are opposed to defunding the NYPD and both agree that addressing seasonal traffic congestion as well as pedestrian safety will be high priorities for the district.
Attendees enjoyed pizza, salad and refreshments while listening to the two candidates speak with civility towards each other.
Long time Coney Island business owner (see video) and activist Lola Star attended and expressed her concern for the small businesses in the amusement district unfairly facing outrageously offensive rent hikes by International Corporation Zamperla (CAI) who oversees the City of New York owned land bought with taxpayer money.
Mr. Guadalupe is planning another fruitful candidate forum in the coming weeks. All community members and candidates will be encouraged to attend.
