Why Steven Cohen Needs to Bring Feltman’s Hot Dogs to Citi Field

Billionaire hedge fund manager Steven Cohen is the most popular man in New York City right now. As the new owner of the “New” New York Mets, he is expected to make this a Mets town (think 1986) once again. He would be very popular with fans if he makes sure the legendary Feltman’s of Coney Island Hot Dogs are available at Citi Field kiosks.

Last Wednesday Mr. Cohen tweeted to his adoring followers what they thought about the hot dogs at Citi Field. A few replied that they were satisfied with the current Nathan’s Famous hot dogs sold at the park; however, with very good reason many pleaded with Cohen to eject Nathan’s from the park for the higher quality Feltman’s of Coney Island hot dogs.

This is intriguing as these two names have a long history together. It was after-all Charles Feltman who invented the hot dog at Coney Island, NY in 1867 and went on to open the largest restaurant in the world there. Nathan’s can’t compete with that history. Nathan actually worked at Feltman’s of Coney Island slicing buns way back in 1915. In 1916 Nathan left his job at Feltman’s to open his own hot dog emporium in 1916. He sold an inferior version of Feltman’s German Frankfurter for five cents.

Nathan’s Famous hot dogs have not tasted the same since the manufacturing licensing deal was given to Wan Long of China and his company the WH Group. The WH Group in China manufactures hot dogs for Nathan’s Famous through Smithfield.

Meanwhile Feltman’s has come back with a vengeance as a Veteran owned and operated hot dog brand sold nationally at Whole Foods. Feltman’s is currently the fastest growing hot dog company in the United States. The all -natural uncured Feltman’s are a top seller at Whole Foods and are found at thousands of supermarkets including Publix. Try Feltman’s for yourself here.

Frank the Tank Fleming of Barstool Sports fame has been pleading with Cohen via Twitter to add his favorite hot dog Feltman’s of Coney Island to the New York Mets food menu.

The Feltman’s hot dog business was the dream of Brooklyn native Jimmy Quinn who was probably the most dedicated Mets fan who ever lived. As a boy Jimmy would sneak onto the subway to meet Mets players at Shea Stadium and spent plenty of time showing up to the Mets spring training games. Shea Stadium was Jimmy’s second home.

Tragically, Jimmy lost his life on 9/11 while working for Cantor Fitzgerald. He was only 23. His dream would be fulfilled if Steve Cohen’s Mets win a World Series and if Feltman’s Hot Dogs makes their debut at Citi Field.

So please, let’s get those Feltman’s hot dogs into Citi Field Mr. Cohen.
