Luna Park’s new Astro Tower was taking test runs over the weekend (see video). The Astro Tower name originally derives from the Cold War Era comic books conveying America’s space travel ambitions.

In 1954 Pittsburgh’s Courier Newspaper inked a futuristic comic series featuring an Astro-Tower.
Exactly one decade later Astroland Park used the name for their Tower to the Stars attraction which replaced Feltman’s Carousel. The ride was built by Willy Buhler of Switzerland. Another Space Spiral was built at the Atlantic City Pier the following year. The tower built for Cedar Park, Ohio was taken down only a few years ago. The Coney Island Astro Tower was taken down in 2013.
So now a new Astro Tower is getting ready to cater to a new generation of thrill seekers. A shorter but most likely more exciting ride than the Astroland slow turning scenic version.
According to Luna Park’s social media “exciting news” about the new ride will be on Facebook live on Wed. May 9th at 12pm.
