Hot Dogs Containing Nitrates Cause Cancer

Coney Island is the birthplace of the hot dog. It was here in 1867 that a German immigrant by the name of Charles Feltman began placing Frankfurt sausages on his freshly baked elongated buns. Hot Dog inventor Feltman originally called them Coney Island “Red Hots,” others unsure of their ingredients called them hot dogs. That was before mass production.

Today 90% of the hot dogs consumed contain cancer causing nitrates. Large amounts of nitrates are added to meats as a cheap preservative.

According to a report released yesterday kids who eat more than a dozen nitrate filled hot dogs in a month are 9 times more likely to get leukemia. Pregnant women who eat one nitrate filled hot dog a week are more likely to have a child with a brain tumor.

Today more Americans are opting for nitrate free hot dogs. There are a few nitrate free brands sold at supermarkets. AppleGate Farms and Brooklyn Hot Dog Co. produce nitrate free cancer free hot dogs. However, very few restaurants have nitrate free meats.

No reason to fear! The Feltman’s of Coney Island brand is returning with their own nitrate free hot dogs, using all natural preservatives. The company will be selling their own brand of nitrate free hot dogs within the coming months.

According to Feltman’s of Coney Island owner Michael Quinn “Although more expensive to produce, our own nitrate free hot dogs taste better, without unhealthy preservatives. Feltman’s is a much better alternative to the nitrate filled brands out there.”

So next time you plan on eating a hot dog find out if it contains cancer causing nitrates, or opt for a brand like Feltman’s of Coney Island. The real deal.
