My Stay At New Coney Island Hotel

A new hotel opened this month on Stillwell ave. just north of Coney Island located near Ave. Z in the 11223 area code. Referred to as the Sleep Inn Coney Island, it’s technically not in Coney Island; however, it’s certainly close enough. Average rate is $159 per night.

Recently, the hotel’s General Manager invited me to spend a night. So I took him up on the offer. I thought it would be an interesting staycation type of experience, even though I have a residence less than 10 minutes away from the amusement district.

As a Coney Island tour guide I often receive calls from visitors that live in all parts of the world. When they ask me to recommend a hotel in Coney Island, they are flummoxed to find out that one does not currently exist anyway in or near the amusement district. So that’s why a new hotel within walking distance of the beach and boardwalk, even though not in the 11224 zip code(11223), is kind of a big deal.

I checked in at 3pm after my Saturday afternoon walking tour. Conveniently, there is a parking lot directly behind the hotel. I entered the hotel through the front door (pull). There is also a back door entrance by the parking lot; however, it’s not always open from the outside.

I was warmly greeted at the front desk by Dinesh, where I checked in and received my room key. The lobby looked clean and brand new. I carried my luggage (no bell hop) onto the elevator and up to my 3rd floor room. As I entered the room I noticed that even though the room was small the bed was enormous. Perfect.

From the window I took in staggering views of the Belt Parkway, Coney Island Hospital as well as Lincoln High School. I opened up the window to stick my head out until I was able to see the Wonder Wheel as well as the landmarked Shore Theater.

The room itself had a desk with a comfy chair a coffee maker as well as a refrigerator underneath, a flat screen Samsung TV, a dresser with drawers and coat hangers.

The bathroom had it’s own plugged in hair dryer and all of the necessities that one sees in an average hotel room.

After unpacking I decided to take a short walk back to the beach and boardwalk, to have dinner and meet some friends before returning to the hotel that evening.

In the morning complimentary breakfast was served near the lobby. From 6:30am-9:30am there is a selection of coffee, juice, yogurt, toast, muffins, cereal, sausage and eggs as well as fresh waffles.

  1. is the Sleep Inn Coney Island safe and sleepworthy? by that i mean i have read several reviews that have said the bed is very hard and the walls very thin. i am very light sleeper anyway. i am only staying for one night. just need to sleep after a concert then leave the next morning.
