Scaffolding Collapse at Shore Theater

Scaffolding planks collapsed this morning outside the landmarked Shore Theater on the corner of Surf and Stillwell ave.  The FDNY is currently on the scene. The high winds and nasty weather seems to be blamed.

Last year on October 8, the Coney Island Blog posted about how “the city landmarked former Coney Island Loews Theater at 1301 Surf ave. has become a haven for vandals and homeless squatters. A request has been made for preventive measures to halt break-ins.”

After numerous calls made to the Landmarks Committee we were able to get the windows boarded up.

The landmarked building owned by Jasmine Bullard has been poorly kept and is at the very least a hazard to our community. Contacting the owner has been challenging. We can only hope that the building will eventually be kept in the right hands.

To add, one of the windows on either the 4th or 5th floor facing Stillwell Avenue has had the wooden frame knocked out, once again exposing the interior to the elements.

I wish Jasmine would come out with a statement of what she wanted for this building.
