#SaveNYC Campaign in Full Swing

I was born in NYC during the Ford to City: Drop Dead era. Nobody gave a rats ass about NYC. Especially Brooklyn. Forget about Coney Island!

As a child sitting in my father’s car on Stillwell ave. gazing up at a dilapidated roller coaster called the Tornado, I wouldn’t have recognized the Coney Island of today. I certainly wouldn’t recognize the NYC of today.

It doesn’t matter whether or not you are for the heavy influx of corporate franchises moving into the city. The sobering fact is that now more than ever in the history of our city you really have a 0% chance of surviving as a small business.

Growing up in Brooklyn your family relied on the small businesses to provide affordable food and clothing. What will NYC look like 10 years from now? Heck, what will it look like only one year from now? What can we do to support small businesses that best serve the community?

Jeremiah Moss of the popular blog Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York has an answer. Scream bloody murder!!!!!

After starting the Facebook group Save New York, Mr. Moss who’s real name and identity remains a secret, is mobilizing the troops with the launch of the website SaveNYC.NYC.

Residents new and old are submitting their video lamentations of an unrecognizable NYC.

One of the videos posted documents a heart wrenching interview with the owner of the doomed Upper West Side dancewear and apparel store Barbara Gee Danskin Center. The owner sadly reveals that as a result of a rent hike he is forced to close his small business.

The imposing Brooklyn born 6ft10 poet, J.H. (Big Joe), laments the loss of the popular Rodeo Bar which was serving booze, free music and peanuts at the same location for 23 years and had to shut down as a result of an impossible $20,000 per month rent increase. Watch video HERE.
